The gracefully curved stairway leads to the private quarters. You will notice the symbol of the pineapple, hand-carved by Keats Lorenz, on each step. The pineapple represents hospitality & friendship. Legend has it that if you left one part of the artwork unfinished, it would ward off evil spirits. If you look closely at the 9th step, you will notice one of the pineapples is not scored.
Wood carvings throughout the Residence were done by Keats Lorenz.
The crystal chandelier is actually two chandeliers made into one, and the molding on the ceiling was highlighted by gold leafing.
The door knobs on the inside doors were on the front door of the old Residence, transferred to the front door of the present Residence when it was built... and now have been placed inside to preserve them for historical purposes.
Most of the artwork throughout the residence is on loan from Joslyn and Sheldon Art Galleries and the Historical Society.
